Just a short post to update readers on Googles newest search engine adjustments. Last week they announced on their blog a new algorithm update that will influence almost 12% of all sites in their data base.
Quoted from Googles blog…”Many of the changes we make are so subtle that very few people notice them. But in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking–a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries–and we wanted to let people know what’s going on. This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites–sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites–sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.”
This means that the saying “content is king” is now more important than ever. The content you put on your web site will be better ranked if it is original and well written. It also means that the Google sweet spot, which is the amount of keywords in your copy, is also more important. In order for your pages to rank as high as possible you need to pay closer attention to on page optimization. The sweet spot is about 5% keyword density in your body copy.
This all will become more relevant as local small business people become more web savvy. At this time local search is not nearly as competitive as national search. However, as more business people find the power of local search the atmosphere will become more competitive.
Most small businesses are to busy running their business to practice or even care about good seo techniques. That is why I specialize in small business seo consulting. You may have a nice looking web site but if it is not on the first page of local Google search, using the keywords that real people search on, then your site is not being seen and has little value. The value of a web site is it’s ability to get new customers at a low price.
I can put your web site on the first page of Google search. Give me a call and let us discuss how to do this while the competition is still low.
